lyrics

Woke up this morning with a strange feeling of detachment.
In the morning paper at the edge of the obituary segment,
It was written black & white that I died somewhere last night.
I couldn't believe it what a sight, how could this be right?

I tried to call some friends of mine to hear the voice of reason,
But the phone was dead there was no line, it all felt like a prison.
All the walls are closing in, sunshine can't be seen.
This felt like a Hitchcock scene, the best, but just off-screen (The best, but just off...)

So I went down to the street, shuffling my feet,
But there wasn't anyone to greet, it took too long to hit.
That I was standing all alone, everyone was gone,
I'm feeling then that every bone weighs about a ton.

Try to think what this all mean, wearing my soul thin.
How very weird has this all been, ugly cruel and mean.
I'm being pulled now it may seem, by a lightened beam,
I fail to understand the scheme - was this just a dream?
